Summer Cross Country
Every summer our family takes a cross country trip. We drive through different states and leave the cable tv offers behind. Our trip usually begins from the east coast where we live and ends on the other side of the country in California or Washington. The drive was difficult the first year we decided to do it, but as the kids grew up, they began to see the benefit in travelling across the country.
The things they learn on this trip are beneficial and limitless. We leave sandy beaches behind and hang up our swim trunks for different things like cave exploration, history lessons and even a driving lesson or two. When our kids were younger, they would play fun games in the car like finding a license plate or landmark in alphabetical order. Now that they are a little older, they have their electronic gadgets to play with. Though the knowledge of this trip is not completely lost and they appreciate the history and knowledge they gain from it.
Aside from that, we enjoy meeting new people in each state and don’t have any trouble asking for directions as we’re on a time schedule to get back before school starts again. Oddly, we’ve cut it close every time we’ve come back from the trip; I guess we just plan too many things to do.
